I spent quite a while chatting to Tom Clark Jnr who was Sir Tom Clark's nephew and he is so engaging!!

He mentioned that he had never heard of the term Ambrico until recent years as he only ever knew of it called Amalgamated for all of his life.

So where did the abbreviated term Ambrico come from?
Where did the street name Ambrico come from?

He also had a story to tell about Sir Tom Clark visiting Wengers who supplied stains and lustres and the like when he visited England. Sir Tom was after information and a connection to a supplier. However Wenger's told him to go back to NZ and worry about producing sheep and butter to send to England and to leave the pottery making to those in England who knew what they were doing!!
Sir Tom came back to NZ and said "We will NEVER purchase anything from Wengers EVER!!" and they didn't as all of their stains and lustres were purchased from Blythes. Tom Jnr also said that 'Amalgamated' bought the most gold lustre from Blythes than any other pottery in the world. affraid

The Ambrico backstamp from my electric jug is given the date range 1946-1948 in our CL marks gallery. I don't know if the abbreviated name appears anywhere else though?
