My new find ~ an unusual Olive Jones piece

While away camping this last week, I found this unusual art deco piece, and have to say I was surprised when I saw the name on the base.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Initially I passed it by, but curiosity got the better of me, and I am very pleased it did. Does anyone know what purpose it may have had? I thought a double open salt, as the bowls are too rounded in the base to hold condiments I thought, and too shallow to be egg cups.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Well now that made me smile widely. 
A great find in the name of NZ Pottery history.
Now tell me ..... what is it?

Really hoping someone may have the answer to that. Isn't it fab though

Condiments?  Jam choices?  Olives and pickles?
