Stour Ware Empty Stour Ware

Post  angelar Mon 24 Feb - 21:57

I have purchased a marked 20 pint Stour Ware (Timaru) crock with a lid which has a slight chip in the lid. It is incredibly heavy but in remarkably excellent condition.
I have know idea of the value of this item.
Any ideas please?

Stour Ware Empty Thank you

Many thanks for these links. I think that my crock is one of the earlier ones due to the extreme weight and roughness of the crock. I very much appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. Thank you.

Stour Ware Empty Re: Stour Ware

Post  Thelma Tue 25 Feb - 22:14

Hi, My book by Davina Davis, mentions that early wares are usually marked with an oval with Stour Ware Timaru, made with oatmeal colored Mt Somers clay. This was when the South Canterbury Pottery and Mining Company owned the works. After 1939 timaru Potteries was established. Marks from this time may be an oval with Stour Ware Made by Timaru Potteries, incorporating the logos of both companies. Later marks were variations of Made by Timaru Potteries. Hope this helps a bit. If you are interested in looking at more, The South Canterbury Museum has a website with some pictures of some of their exhibits.
