Re: glentunnel/Homebush bricks
Hi Ev, The Homebush Brick, Pipe and Terracotta Works are mentioned In Gail Henry's book. Page 103. The homestead at Homebush was destroyed in the September 2010 quake and has since been demolished, but was a fantastic example of the triple brick architecture. Thankfully, some of the other buildings have survived, made with bricks from the local brickworks, owned by the Deans family. I saw the old stables, workshop, piggery and other cottages which were all the wonderful locally made brick. different colours obtained from clays from different sources. The piece de resistance for me was the magnificent woolshed, with its curved brick archways and white brick edges it must be truly one of the best in NZ! (Sorry for going on but I was gobsmacked!) I also took photos of the site of the old works (sadly all gone now) and some other pictures like the ones above from the Museum, plus the library, an octagonal brick masterpiece which has examples of every type of moulding the brickworks made. I also photographed all the pages of the original catalogue from the library. I have heaps of photos if you would like me to post some. Or email if preferred.

Re: glentunnel/Homebush bricks
Thanks Thelma, I can see your enthusiasm from here
I've moved your thread into the Bricks topic and when you get time, please add some of your favourite photos. Catalogues are priceless glimpses of the past and if you think there are no copyrights in place, please send the photos to the site on newzealandpottery@gmail.com and I will post them.
Did they make pottery as well as bricks? If so I will move this thread again to join the likes of Benhar etc.

re Glentunnel/Homebush brick
Great to find out where my corner brick was made. Looks like it could have been in a fireplace surround.
