Doing a bit of sorting today and noticed that I have a few cups/coffee cans all the same size and shape but more striking is that they have a strange little handle quite unlike any other Crown Lynn handle as I recall.
I have changed to one of these for my morning coffee to give my hand oainted IMAGE
457 a spell and noticed the different handle. Apart from the squashed shape in profile
the handle is actually quite a bit thicker then other handles, I find it is best to hook my index finger through the gap and then steady the cup with my thumb rather than just pinching between thumb & finger as is possible with many other cup handles.
Curious.

The first two one white and one dark brown have no back stamps, the second pair are both from the Earthstone range but without and design or number noted.
These cups hold 180ml of coffee with just a nice space before the lip to avoid spilling.
I am already thinking about tomorrow's breakfast cup.

I have a few of these too and like them as they are so different.
The Air New Turquoise cups have this shaped handle so they must have been made around the mid 1960's. The Earthstone range was made in the late 1970's so they used this shaped handle for a while.

My AirNZ cup has this handle:

I have no idea if there are variations though.

Thanks for your comments Ev & TonyK, at the risk of also being wrong is that Air New Zealand cup the shape with the fatter base shape than the so called tulip shape?

The cup has a wider base and narrows more gradually than the "tulip" shape.

Have noticed these handles too, also in a earthstone brown. Have to say I find them exceptionally comfortable for taking a cup of tea or coffee. Maybe people with small hands think not, however I rate these as one of the best designs for holding a hot drink

Thanks Gloworm,
Glad that you find them as convenient as I do and I also love their curious shape.
