That's a nice plate. I *think* the one below may be his first mark, but I might need to be corrected. It is dated 2000 which, if it is his, would put it just after he had finished his apprenticeship in Raglan with Tony Sly and diploma in Ceramic Design and Production at the Whanganui Polytech and went to work for a while at Driving Creek. Does this look like the type of thing that might have come out of the salt kiln at Driving Creek?

It certainly does look like something from the Driving Creek kilns. It's lovely too.

That's a great write-up. Anyone who gets as comprehensive a treatment as that from Moyra Elliot deserves to be noticed.

I have a real soft spot for Paul Maseyk because not only is he a Hamilton boy, he's the epitome of the provincial potter made good - Hamilton to Raglan to Coromandel to Wanganui to New Plymouth punctuated with pilgrimages back to the Arcadian idyll of Driving Creek.
