The Coffee Can topic is getting a bit big so here is a snapshot of all my Crown Lynn patterns and colours along with 10 Rorstrand cans, the model for the Crown Lynn cans, in front. I have tried to sit every can on an appropriate saucer.

They will probably be sitting on the dining table for a while yet so I might rearrange them to make all the patterns visible.

I'm still trying to sort out what to keep and what to get rid of, but still acquiring new ones and making new discoveries amongst those I have, such as my most recent, that there are three different yellows: I have only two shown here as that was after I laid these out.

Clearly attempting to collect and keep sets of six in each design, as I had planned many years back (and achieved to a degree), is ridiculous. This lot, just a single example of each, occupies one square metre.

Centre of the display is my Reflections on a 782 can. The updated Reflections (3618 shape) is not shown, nor are the earthenware cans (3022 and 3023).

Some cans and saucers are duplicated as they came to me in different combinations. Not all legitimate combinations, for example Athens on three different colours of saucer are shown, and for convenience I have placed all the plain colours on black saucers.

5/6/15 3022 and 4018 duos
A 4018 saucer arrived today for my black 3022 cup so I thought this would be a good place to post my three earthenware duos which are made with the same jigs as the vitrified duos. All three can colours have the same pattern, for which we have yet to find a name, and saucers matched in colour. I bought the black cup last year but it was on a CookServe saucer. All pieces are marked Kelston Potteries.

wow, that collection is very impressive  Smile I love all the colours/patterns, they look awesome together.
How are you displaying them? will you need to make some purpose built shelving?

This is it for the moment Janice! We have ten feet of dining table for three people so this is my sorting area. Things move around when I get to change the table cloth, which I did today because we are having company tomorrow.

I rotate things on the shelf I made for the six handpainted cans: it currently has six different shapes of vitrified duo.

I have an eight foot shelf of aluminium moka pots mirrored by a shelf of ceramic coffee pots on permanent display.

I also have a permanent display with Cleverley coffee sets on two shelves. The Lucow shelf also has all the Chateau Range casseroles and bits and pieces and the Chunky Coffee Set shelf is currently sharing with other castware mugs in Basalt glaze. They are both more crowded than I would like them to be. The third shelf in this unit has all my handpainted Blue Tango cookware and tableware.

I have also managed to find a place for non-Cook-&-Serve cans and demitasses but that looks too messy so it will have to move.

I have a wall unit planned for the lounge for 100 castware mugs (etc) of which I now have 90, but I keep not building it! 1.5m H x 1m W, and just four inches or so deep, a bit like a big picture on the wall.

I do have a place where I can make another unit for Rorstrand and Cook & Serve cans and saucers (which of course take up more room than mugs). I will probably rotate this collection to amuse myself as I have done with some of the photos in the long CookServe topic. It'll probably house about 36 duos.

Also one shelf in a corner cabinet is Country Fair, and the shelf across the room from it is Royal Oak Lava: my "ugly" shelves.

Fleurette is in the pantry, along with everyday plates.

I would like to find somewhere for early earthenware, Paris etc, early CL mugs, and Titian mugs, but have no idea yet where that lot can go.

When I have a place for everything I want to display, then I will get rid of the excess!

I have specifically avoided other decorative pottery like vases because I have my Dad's 300 pieces of Victorian glass which includes many vases and I only have a fraction of that on show.

Janice, I've seen you win so many auctions on tm, are you sure you're a step behind me?!? But yes, I do need to stop too. Just as soon as ...

Actually I have no auctions today AND I walked out of the opshops empty handed.

Cook & Serve (782/792) and earthenware (3022/4018) coffee can duos + RORSTRAND: a snapshot Empty Kay's Rorstrand Can Collection

Post  Jeremy Ashford Sun 27 Jul - 13:50

Here is a much better selection of the Swedish Rorstrand cans than mine.
Still not all the patterns, but I'd value this set at in excess of $1000 on the international market. How much more is anyone's guess. I am very jealous. I cannot even name all the patterns.

These belong to forum member Kay Abraham.

With the exception of "Mia", 2nd row down number 4 these are all on correctly matched saucers. 3rd row down item one is "Delikat", one of Marianne Westman's most famous and sought-after designs.

Imagine what the Crown Lynn cans could have looked like if Frank Carpay had still been there in the 1960s!
