Visited Andrew today and while there I asked about his time at Titian. He said he was taught how to slipcast while working there in around 1967 and he couldn't speak highly enough of Cam Brown. Andrew's little car struggled to get from Mt Eden to Takanini and it would take an hour each way, so he didn't stay for all that long. His next job was as a slip caster at Crown Lynn where he was welcomed with open arms because of his experience at Titian. However he only stayed around three weeks before getting fired for not working through his lunch time and on Saturdays as was expected of him. In the short time he was there he met Daniel Steenstra and was enormously impressed by his throwing abilities.
Andrew's next job was as an apprentice to Len Castle where he worked for around 2 years and you will find Len Castle and Andrew's marks together on domestic wares made during this time. Andrew feels so privileged to have had this experience from the master of the pottery in NZ.
At this time Andrew also worked as an assistant to Helen Mason and also to Jeff Scholes and learnt all aspects of pottery from these three potters.

When I interviewed Ian Crum he mentioned that Andrew and his brother worked at Crum. I wonder if this was his first job?
