(Well I suppose the Wet Your Whistle may be a beer mug but it looks right here.)

I've just tacked my latest onto the end rather than re-shoot just one day later.
It's not really so big, at 10cm high.

My total has now reached 13.
I have yet to work these additions into a tidy picture. (Two below are duplicates.)

Is this one any different? Seems to have the thinner body and the more angled handle.

TWENTY-FOUR Orzel mug shapes Empty Mike's mug, above and below, makes number 14

Post  Jeremy Ashford Mon 28 Apr - 22:13

Mike,
From the photos it does appear to have different proportions.
The "Frangipani" is 83mm high by 73 across the top. Can you add measurements to yours. A photo at the same angle is better for comparing.
The photos from the iPad (my photos) can give a false picture if the object is not centre screen.

If you have been following discussion on Orzel you may have noted my observations elsewhere that Orzel sometimes produced items in the same shape but with different embossed patterns. A good example is the lattice salt pig, which can also be found with simple banding as if off a potter's wheel. I've seen the same practice on casseroles and ramekins too. My tall mug above is an odd one as it has the the knobbly base usually seen with the verdigris copper glaze and looks wrong with the mustard and white combination. I have yet to see mugs in the same shape but with different pattern so if yours measures up same as mine it will be a first.

Either way we should get it into the gallery too.

TWENTY-FOUR Orzel mug shapes Empty Re: TWENTY-FOUR Orzel mug shapes

Post  mike67 Tue 29 Apr - 9:16

Hi Jeremy
The mug is 83 mm high but only 65 across at the top and 73 mm wide at the base.
As you mentioned the salt pigs with the simple wheel banding compared to to lattice one I posted a few days ago, I have another that is as you describe but the proportions are different to the lattice one. This one is a few mm shorter with a much lower bowl opening and opening shape. The lattice opening is a full symmetrical oval while this one flatter bottom and arched top. The angle of the opening is quite different to the lattice one as well. I just can't tell if it is the same as the one in the gallery or not. I will include a photo here and if you could let me know it would be much appreciated. Cheers

TWENTY-FOUR Orzel mug shapes Empty (number fifteen)

Post  Jeremy Ashford Tue 29 Apr - 10:12

Orzel made quite a few salt pigs. I may have been wrong about the lattice having an exact match but time will tell.

I think your mug will count as a new shape, being 8mm narrower and having no pattern.

TWENTY-FOUR Orzel mug shapes Empty sixteen

My sixteenth different Orzel coffee mug shape.
This has an unusually fancy handle.

I continue to collect Orzel coffee mugs but now pass on the beer mugs as there are just too many looking the same.

TWENTY-FOUR Orzel mug shapes Empty 20, 21, 22, 23, 24

Post  Jeremy Ashford Wed 7 Jan - 11:01

I have updated my title again as it appears this is actually number twenty.
The missing three are duplicates of shapes that have appeared elsewhere on the forum.

17/12/14
Today I found number seventeen [20 actually].
From Nigel at Junk and Disorderly, Paeroa.
A variation on the two-finger mug with some interesting surface treatment and altered handle.

Other two include arches pattern and the "probably Orzel" which I have now confirmed is indeed Orzel.

Posted ones I don't have are the barrel with cutout handle Val posted from a Waihi shop, and Anne's one that matches the Greek Key jug, bringing posted Orzel mug shapes, including Adelaar and Aquila to 22, not including Orzel Settlers or beer mugs.

I'll have to check the galleries on that.
