Persello Cup - Like Wave pattern- very interesting Dsc08316
I found this cup today, and thought it looked like wave, but there was only 2 stripes, and it's like a horseshoe
Persello Cup - Like Wave pattern- very interesting Dsc08319
The top grey line continues around the cup to the handle, but then there is this word Persello
Persello Cup - Like Wave pattern- very interesting Dsc08318
I googled this word, and came up with this from an expired auction http://www.trademe.co.nz/pottery-glass/porcelain-pottery/crown-lynn/cups-saucers/auction-222268321.htm, with this information:
This Duet design was designed by Percy Golding in the 1980's he was a designer at Crown Lynn from 1979-1987. When travelling abroad Percy noticed that the Italian designers signed there ceramic pieces. Percy decided to make up a joke name and signed his cups "Percello" to his amusement the addition to his design was not noticed and slipped through to the completed cups......Percy lives in Thames and is now retired.........Pete
and I found a current auction 655305010

That is interesting Sunny!
I've seen those cups many times, but didn't realise there was a story behind them.
I think Val Monk talks about this chap a fair bit......

Pete who gave that info is a friend of Percy's so he would have heard it first-hand. What a lovely story. I love, the way the ceramic industry has its little in-jokes the same as any other industry. But ceramics is more enduring!

AND having never heard this story before, I found my own Persello cup at the Onerahi market yesterday. Happy.... Here's to Percy Golding - and to Pete who encouraged him to write his story.

Good for you MaryR, it is worth having in ones collection I think. Do you agree that these cups are the Duet pattern 57600 ?

Yes I have a pic of Percy's Focus set and that is exactly what it looks like. Except my saucer has the number d 10209 on the base. Which is not the number you have for Focus, Ev. Maybe his Persello duos had a special number!
