Carousel Pat. No. 493

Carousel is a popular standard pattern ....
thought we had it in the gallery... but we don't!!!
I know that it's in the database and will give it a number when I post it in the gallery

Database has 2 numbers for Carousel .... 400 and 493 .... hmmm
will have to research which one this one is

I've found that there appears to be an earlier Carousel that has narrower stripes than the newer version.
No numbers yet for either .... so the search continues

I posted a carousel saucer some time ago..we had that in the gallery at one stage.

Heather remembered that her saucer was Hacienda .... similar to Carousel, but different

I've found some measurements for the two different Carousel, that I want to record here to remember them.
Older version - Large plate = 251mm - Smaller plate = 223mm
Newer version - Large plate = 246mm
Still haven't found any sign of pattern numbers on either

Im gonna guess its 493 as this auction http://www.trademe.co.nz/Pottery-glass/Porcelain-pottery/Crown-Lynn/Bowls-dishes/auction-322724133.htm states that it is d400 so mystery might be solved

Have that on my watchlist..... as I can't read the backstamp ...
want to ask the cavemanner to transcribe it ... but as I'm not buying .... oh you know :blah: and
I won't make any decisions just yet ....

gosh this is all very intriguing

Went a bit further afield today with the intention of sorting out the Carousel enigma.
Well, the opshop I headed for has gone all upmarket and instead of shelves and shelves of piles of plates... they only have a couple of piles now ..... but they did have a Mark Cleverly coffee pot just like the one on page 122 in Val Monk - I could hardly contain myself - no markings, but so beautifully designed .... it has a yummy matt bluey-green glaze similar to the Ngakura ware ....I was very impressed.... so yep I paid the $15 they wanted for it The last thing I need but hey hey hey
Went to a 2nd hand shop nearby that always has a mountain of dearer plates .... and I spied Carousel rings..... and yes it had the pattern number 493 nice quality plate..Beauty Bonza .... kept looking a bit further and found a brown Carousel with the number 400 on it.... so it's all done and dusted now and it seems that if I go looking with a purpose ..... I will find it lmaoooo Photos later.

and the backstamp ...

I got a second carousel dinner plate yesterday and after putting it side by side with the one i already had it was very evident that the older plate had much narrower and stronger coloured rings it was backstamped with the one above this post the newer plate had more muted toned and thicker rings

Old plate diameter was 25cm newer plate was 24cm

Heavily crazed but gorgeous all the same

Very nice narna, don't think I've seen the Carousel S & P before
