Ev,
photos as requested. maybe these should be deleted once you have copied them as they take time to load and are all illustrated above.

Re: Cook & Serve Coffee Cans: Including a Tacoma Coffee Service
The coffee can photos are absolutely brilliant Jeremy!!
They load quickly for me .... please leave them there.
I can now easily see the difference between the handpainted and the transfer mogambo patterns.
Which one do you want me to put into the Patterns Gallery? Never mind I put both in the Gallery
I overlooked the patterns Image and Saraband and I don't see Mexico ..we don't have those patterns yet.
It won't take me long to get the above into the Gallery and thanks for naming the files as I'm not familiar with any of those patterns
It's a real delight to have you on the site Jeremy with all that you have shared with us

Re: Cook & Serve Coffee Cans: Including a Tacoma Coffee Service
It dawned on me during the night that we were given 6 cups and saucers in the Napoli pattern as a wedding present. The saucers were a dark chocolate brown. I thought that they were so classy
Re: Cook & Serve Coffee Cans: Including a Tacoma Coffee Service
Lucky you, Ev.
I have only ever seen one brown C&S saucer.
I obtained mine from a 2nd hand shop in Te Aroha, cups from elsewhere.
Dare I say it, your age is showing!

Re: Cook & Serve Coffee Cans: Including a Tacoma Coffee Service
Thanks so much for Mexico and Saraband pics Jeremy.
Mexico is one of my favourites... with it's gorgeous burgundy saucer!
Still missing Image 457 .... maybe one day
Yes I guess it does show my age ... but that's ok by me
You know I can't remember if they were Crown Lynn or some imported ware?
You mentioned a saucer with abbreviated maker.. I'm wondering if our Napoli was made by someone else.
They came beautifully packed in a special box.... like Crown Lynn would have had perhaps....?

Re: Cook & Serve Coffee Cans: Including a Tacoma Coffee Service
The first set I made up and gave away was Image transfer. It is just so ubiquitous. I barely notice it. Pictures tomorrow if the light's good. I prefer not to flash but sometimes the camera takes over.
I hope the pictures will clearly show the difference between hand-painted and transfer.
On the former the background lines are faint, and the segments appear to have been applied with a sponge, have a stippled texture and look golden. I think the same on the transfer look dirty.

Re: Cook & Serve Coffee Cans: Including a Tacoma Coffee Service
Ev,
Thanks.
I see it costs money to subscribe to see price, location etc.
I think I have enough cups (they have kept popping up as I've looked for bits and pieces this last week), but I may be short of a saucer or two for a 6-set.
Thanks.

Re: Cook & Serve Coffee Cans: Including a Tacoma Coffee Service
Fantastic thanks Jeremy
I can tell the transfer from the handpainted mug ...
they did a great job those Crown Lynn handpainters!
They probably only had a sample to copy too.......?
My pottery background helps me out with these things

Well I got quite a few new Crown Lynn patterns for the gallery .... and at the last stop ....
..............there was a Danzig cup and saucer .... $12 but I happily paid it
Photo to come later

Re: Cook & Serve Coffee Cans: Including a Tacoma Coffee Service
I don't suppose you want to sell it, or swap it.
(I have a fair few to choose from, but sorry no Mexico to spare.)
I'll be in Auckland next week.
Danzig is the only pattern I have seen that I do not possess.

Re: Cook & Serve Coffee Cans: Including a Tacoma Coffee Service
Ev,
bit of a catch-up
While tidying I found I DO have a Danzig and one is enough.
Jeremy.
PS I also found a few of my Rorstrand cups and Rorstrand Tango coffee set.
Some pattern names: Fenix (h/p bird), Eden (h/p halved apple), King (h/p another bird), Curtis or Cedric or similar (I think, geometric), others buried around the place too.
Is there any interest in posting pics?

That's great that you found your Danzig Jeremy
I would like to see the Rorstrand Tango coffee set please ....

Re: Cook & Serve Coffee Cans: Including a Tacoma Coffee Service
I was going through the database today and noticed that Danzig had the shape numbers 782/792 beside the name!!!!! Heather confirmed that 782 are cups on her notes from the Museum and the 792 can only be the saucer for that Danzig cup! So that gives us two new shapes for the Crown Lynn Shapes Gallery
Mogambo cup with shading on the other side .....
Photo courtesy of Banker to show this Mogambo coffee can that has the shading in reverse .....?
reversed patterns
I don't think I have underglaze mogambo in reverse but I do have reverse in hand-painted mogambo!
Also various others with transfers upside down (I guess this is how they get reversed), notably saraband.
(Correction: I have been looking thru my collection and it appears my Mogambo reverse is u/g transfer, like banker's one.)

Viking
ev,
Amongst my may C&S saucers are some black ones with the name "Viking":
do you have any idea what this might refer to?
I just made a search and found no entries under this name.

Display shelf
Having just built corner cabinets for my late father's Victorian glass (well maybe half of his 300 pieces) I just had one piece of wall area remaining in the dining room.
I built an open cabinet of 3/8 (10mm) rimu just big enough to house six hand-painted cups and saucers on three shelves: this hangs by small brass chains from three rafters (two to brace and one to pull it against the wall) and is tied by a fourth to the chair rail.
If I could remember the upload process I'd show you.
Then I discovered where I could show one each of the remaining sixteen under-glaze and plain c&ss over two shelves which I have yet to hang.
That leaves the Rorstrand cans to display display somewhere!
I'd also like to show some sets, with coffee pots etc but have run out of room.
When my brother and his family visit from Sweden in the summer I plan to assemble a 6 set of hand-painted Blue Tango c&ss with a Blue Tango coffee pot to take back and confuse the Swedes, who might think it is Rorstrand until otherwise advised.

Re: Cook & Serve Coffee Cans: Including a Tacoma Coffee Service
It's so nice to see you back here Jeremy
Please email photos to the site on newzealandpottery@gmail.com and I will post them for you, as I'm keen to see exactly what you've done with your coffee cans.
There are a few Viking patterns on the Patterns Database and I will check them out when I get a chance and let you know what I can find.
We have identified one of the patterns that you didn't have a name for .... the one with green and pink 'trees' http://newzealandpottery.forumotion.net/gallery/Crown-Lynn-Tableware-Patterns/A-B-C-D/Conifer-PatNo917-pic_2693.htm
Here is the topic on how to post photos which might help you remember how to do it -

thanks for all that ev,
I'll see if I can get a decent picture tomorrow. I'll just be lazy and email.
I'll try to get the other shelves up next week and get the full set on display on their saucers, even dig out Danzig!
