These are really stunning.... I haven't seen anything quite like them

and the camera doesn't do them justice...

One is a gorgeous reddy browny colour

and the base...

the other is a yellowy greeny colour -

there may be more to come

Triple glazes..... even treacle glazes.... but TRICKLE makes my teeth curl!!

The Specials Department experimented with a wide variety of glazes.

They tried using a base glaze and then randomly putting on top of the base another two glazes.... bravo!

Now it came to pass in New Zealand that Crown Lynn collectors called this achievement TRICKLE glaze.....

I still shudder when I see this terminology and I see it every day!!!!!

Who came up with this name for the beautiful triple glaze system that the Special Dept used????

I want to know WHO?

Sometime in the 1920s the Clark family (Rice Owen Clark) amalgamated their family business with other potteries from Auckland and Wellington to become the Amalgamated Brick and Pipe Company. Their plant at Hobsonville had mainly produced pipeworks (1860s) but by 1906 were making salt glazed pots and urns, bread pans and storage jars as well as their core business of bricks and pipes.

In 1925 the Hobsonville operation was closed down and shifted to New Lynn which offered labour, a railway ...

These are from Manos's collection...the shoe is very unusual, has a small slot like a money box but is not big enough...we have posted the photo of the bird with it so that you can compare the look and the colour of the glaze..
